Attractions In Deeside, Scotland
What is there to do and see in Royal Deeside?
'Had an enjoyable three night stay in Ordie. The house was clean and in a nice location for the series of lovely walks we did over the days we spent there. A short drive from Aboyne or Ballater for a meal, shopping or a takeaway and many places for walking with our dogs. It is very close to walks around Loch Kinord and up the Burn o Vat and the walking in the woods and along the River Dee at Cambus O May. Slightly further away we walked at Ballater, Aboyne, up Scolty hill in Banchory and visited the cairns on the Balmoral estate.
In between we rested in the cottage and had an excellent nights sleep awaking to see the variety of birds exploring the feeders out of the kitchen window."
Nature Reserve
There is lots to see and do in this part of the world, from villages with unique gift and coffee shops, lochs and rivers to walk by, hills to climb, cycling, ski-ing, golf, gliding, castles, whisky tours and much more! Here are just a few of our favourites…
Loch Kinord, near Dinnet, just a mile or so from the cottage. There’s a marked path all the way round.
The Burn O’Vat, just round the corner from the cottage, is an awesome cave and waterfall, also known as Rob Roy’s cave.
These are both part of the beautiful Muir of Dinnet nature reserve.

Castle Country
Crathes Castle, a National Trust property, is a traditional Scottish castle with beautiful gardens, and a ghost!
There are also Balmoral Castle, Craigievar Castle, Drum Castle, Braemar Castle and Castle Fraser, all less than an hour away and many more in the surrounding area.
Mountain Hikes
Lochnagar is a Munro (over 3,000 feet high). It’s easy to reach by road and well worth the climb. On a clear day you can see the Forth Bridge from the summit.
From the cottage you can see Morven, a Corbett (just short of a Munro) and Mount Keen (a Munro) and there are plenty of other hills and mountains close by to keep keen walkers entertained for days.
